Old Photograph Rowntree Street Colmonell Scotland
Old photograph of cottages on Rowntree Street in Colmonell located ten miles from Girvan in South Ayrshire, Scotland. The River Stinchar runs through the valley and the Colmonell area boasts three ruined castles: Craigneil Castle, Kirkhill Castle, and Knockdolian Castle. The River Stinchar flows south west from the Galloway Forest Park to enter the Firth of Clyde at Ballantrae, about 12 miles South South East of Ailsa Craig. It is reputed poet Robert Burns fished the river, and despite being impressed by its beauty, was unable to find words to rhyme with the name. I hope these might be of interest to folks with Scottish ancestry.
