Old Photograph Lower Oakfield Street Kelty Fife Scotland

Old photograph of cottages and children on Lower Oakfield Street in Kelty, Fife, Scotland. Kelty is a former coal mining village in the heart of the old mining heartlands of Fife. It is situated on the boundary between Fife and Perthshire. It is located next to the main Edinburgh to Perth road, the M90 motorway. In the early nineteen thirties Alexanders of Falkirk built a new bus garage at Oakfield Street. At its peak around 1965 they employed some 250 staff and had 50 buses in operation. The garage closed in 1979. Staff were transferred to Cowdenbeath.
