Tour Scotland Video MacPherson Stained Glass Window Glencoe

Tour Scotland video of the Robert MacPherson memorial stained glass window in St Mary's Episcopal Church on visit to Glencoe, Scotland. " To the glory of God and to the affectionate memory of Robert MacPherson, priest, first incumbent of St. Mary's Church, Glencoe. Born on the 12th of May 1854. Died on 19th of December 1888. This window was erected by the congregation and friends " Chriochnaich mi an obair a thug thu dhomh i a dheanamh. Gaelic words which mean, " I finished the work that you gave me to do "

In Scottish Gaelic the name Macpherson is Mac a' Phersein which means son of the parson. The Celtic church allowed priests to marry and the progenitor of the chiefs of Clan Macpherson is believed to have been a man named Muireach or Murdo Cattenach who was the priest of Kingussie in Badenoch. The Clan Macpherson is part of the Clan Chattan Confederation. In 843 the chief of Clan Chattan was Gille Chattan Mor and one of his sons, the first chief of Clan Macpherson was forced to resettle in Lochaber by Kenneth MacAlpin, first king of Scots. The chief could have been the lay prior of Ardchattan and he seems to have been named in honor of Saint Cathan. Macpherson clan traditions is that in 1309 Robert the Bruce offered the lands of Badenoch to the chief of Clan Macpherson on the condition that they destroyed the Bruce's enemies, the Clan Comyn, and the Macphersons carried out the king's wishes. The Clan Macpherson is sometimes known as the Clan of the Three Brothers owing to the fact that chief Ewan Ban Macpherson had three sons: Kenneth Macpherson of Clunie, Iain Macpherson of Pitman and Gillies Macpherson of Invereshie.

Tour Scotland Boxing Day video shot on December 26th, 201, of The East Neuk Dook in Anstruther in the East Neuk of Fife, Scotland. I shot a video of the Dook last year as well which you can view below, unfortunately, my video camera malfunctioned today, as you will see in the second half of this video. Sorry for the poor quality in that part of the video. This year the Dook was raising funds for SSAFA Forces Help, The Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association (SSAFA) Forces Help. They are the national charity for those who serve in our Armed Forces, those who used to serve, and their families. Their commitment is to provide a lifetime of support to anyone who has ever served.

Tour Scotland Boxing Day video shot on December 26th, 2011, today of brave souls plunging into the harbour at the East Neuk Big Dook in Anstruther in the East Neuk of Fife, Scotland. Some hardy, brave souls plunging into the harbour in my hometown today in Scotland. These folks were diving into the harbour on a very cold and windy day to raise money for a local hospital charity. They raised £5,200 today. Well done !! Dook, in Scots, means to go for a dip in water. The Anstruther Inshore Lifeboat was in attendance today when these folks plunged into the chilly depths of Anstruther Harbour for Charity. As always they did wonderful voluntary work for the local community on a cold and stormy day in the East Neuk of Fife. Well done lads, and lasses. Very proud of these folks, all the more since this is the where I was raised in Scotland.

Tour Scotland Christmas Day Video Glencoe Scottish Highlands

Tour Scotland Christmas Day video of Glencoe, Scotland. This Scottish glen is considered to be one of the most spectacular and beautiful places in Scotland. The name Glen Coe is often said to mean Glen of Weeping, perhaps with some reference to the infamous Massacre of Glencoe which took place there in 1692. In fact the Glen is named after the River Coe which runs through it, and bore this name long before the 1692 incident. Glen Coe was originally part of the lands of Clan Donald, though since the ending of the clan structure they progressively sold off their estates. Early in the morning of the 13th of February, 1692, in the aftermath of the Glorious Revolution and the Jacobite uprising of 1689 led by John Graham of Claverhouse, a massacre took place in Glen Coe, in the Highlands of Scotland. This incident is referred to as the Massacre of Glencoe which began simultaneously in three settlements along the glen, Invercoe, Inverrigan, and Achnacon, although the killing took place all over the glen as fleeing MacDonalds were pursued. Thirty-eight MacDonalds from the Clan MacDonald of Glencoe were killed by the guests from the Campbell Clan who had accepted their hospitality. They were killed on the grounds that the MacDonalds had not been prompt in pledging allegiance to the new monarchs, William and Mary. Another forty women and children died of exposure after their homes were burned.
