Tour Scotland Autumn Photographs Video Sunset Elie East Neuk of Fife

Tour Scotland Autumn video of sunset at the lighthouse at Elie, East Neuk of Fife, Scotland. Elie and Earlsferry is a coastal village and former royal burgh in Fife, and parish, Scotland, situated within the East Neuk beside Chapel Ness on the north coast of the Firth of Forth, eight miles east of Leven. The burgh comprised the linked villages of Elie and Earlsferry, which were formally merged in 1930 by the Local Government Act of 1929. To the north is the village of Kilconquhar and Loch of Kilconquhar. Golfers, clubmakers and course designers James Braid, Archie Simpson, and Isaac Mackie were born in Earlsferry. The film The Winter Guest, starring Emma Thompson and Phyllida Law, directed by Alan Rickman, was filmed here. The famous Floral clock Princes Street Gardens in Edinburgh was originally constructed in 1903 using the clock mechanism salvaged from Elie Parish Church. In recent decades, the town has become a very popular destination for wealthy residents of Glasgow and Edinburgh. In the summer months the town's population is several times higher than it is during the winter. Attractions include the beach, watersports, golf, restaurants, surfing and sailing.

Tour Scotland Autumn Photograph Video Sunset St Monans East Neuk Of Fife

Tour Scotland Autumn photograph shot this evening of sunset behind the old church by the sea in St Monans, East Neuk of Fife, Scotland.

Tour Scotland Autumn video shot this evening of sunset behind the old church by the sea in St Monans, East Neuk of Fife, Scotland. St Monans Church is situated within its kirkyard just to the west of the village on the very edge of the sea. It has a very dramatic setting, perched on a low rock, reached over a small valley with a burn. As seen from most directions it has the sea as a backdrop. A more modern cemetery stands further westwards on the upper slopes of the little hill. This contains the local war memorial. Standing at the extreme west end of this a romantic ruin can be viewed across fields, again perched on the sea edge. It is often said that St Monans is the church nearest the sea in the whole of Scotland.

Tour Scotland Autumn Photographs Cathedral Ruins St Andrews

Tour Scotland Autumn photograph shot today of the ruins of the Cathedral in St Andrews, Fife, Scotland. The 16th Century precinct wall encloses the cathedral ruins and the church of St Regulus also known as St Rule. The imposing St Regulus Church with its lofty western tower may well have been the shrine built to shelter the relics of Saint Andrew. Queen Margaret's son, Alexander I, nominated Robert, Prior of Scone as Bishop of St Andrews, and it was he who built the church between 1127 and 1144. The Square Tower has a magnificent panorama of St Andrews. Bishop Robert founded the priory around 1159 and his successor Bishop Arnold began work on the new cathedral, which was consecrated in 1318 by Bishop Lamberton in the presence of Robert the Bruce. Only the 12th Century east end, late 13th Century west gables and the south wall of the nave remain of this once immense building with its 10 bay nave. Following the troubles of the Reformation. subsequent neglect and 17th Century quarrying for stone, this once noble building was reduced to the the ruins you can see now. The remains of what was Scotland's largest and most magnificent church and the graveyard are most definitely worth a visit.

Tour Scotland Video McCorquodale Stained Glass Windows St Conan's Kirk

Tour Scotland travel video of the McCorquodale stained glass windows in St Fillan's Aisle on visit to St Conan's Kirk by Loch Awe, Argyll, Scotland. This window was erected in memory of a friend of the Blythswood family. Unlike any of the other stained-glass windows, this was included in the other and smaller building. It was originally installed on the opposite side of the church, but the background of hillside and trees did not do full justice to the stained glass, and so, when the larger scheme was put in hand, the opportunity was taken to move it so that it should overlook the loch. The window consists of three lights. The first shows the Warrior, who has put on the whole Armour of God and bears the Shield of Faith. His faith is so strong that he does not even look at the fiery darts coming up through brambles and smoke. The opposite light shows the Sword of the Spirit piercing evil creatures; while the centre light, " I have finished my course, " depicts angels taking from the Warrior's head the Helmet of Salvation and showing the weeds and smoke at his feet turning to roses.

Tour Scotland Autumn Photograph Video Trees Princes Street Gardens Edinburgh

Tour Scotland Autumn photograph of trees in Princes Street Gardens in Edinburgh, Scotland. Princes Street Gardens is a public park in the centre of Edinburgh, Scotland, in the shadow of Edinburgh Castle. The Gardens were created in two phases in the 1770s and 1820s following the long draining of the Nor Loch and building of the New Town, beginning in the 1760s. The loch, situated on the north side of the town, was originally an artificial creation forming part of its medieval defences and made expansion northwards difficult. The water was habitually polluted from sewage draining downhill from the Old Town. In 1846 the railway was built in the valley to connect the Edinburgh-Glasgow line at Haymarket with the new northern terminus of the North British line from Berwick upon Tweed at Waverley Station

Tour Scotland Autumn Photograph Video Scott Monument Edinburgh

Tour Scotland Autumn photograph of the Sir Walter Scott monument in Princes Street Gardens in Edinburgh, Scotland. The Scott Monument is a Victorian Gothic monument to Scottish author Sir Walter Scott. It is the largest monument to a writer in the world. Walter Scott was born in Edinburgh on August 15, 1771. His father was a farmer and his mother, Anne Rutherford, was the daughter of Dr. John Rutherford, who was one of the founders of the medical school of Edinburgh. Walter was one of ten children. He spent much time with his grandparents, but it was Aunt Jenny who took a special interest in him and influenced him to write. His visits to an uncle, Dr. Rutherford, professor of botany at the University of Edinburgh, brought him into contact with scholarly people. His first novel, Waverly, was published anonymously. His publishers persuaded him to allow further novels to be designated as " by the author of Waverly," and for this reason some of his novels were called the " Waverly Novels. " Although he published biographies of Swift and Dryden and some history, as well as poems and novels, his chief claim to distinction is his contribution to Romanticism and the historical novel. His popularity, both socially and as a writer, was almost unparalleled. He was married in 1797 to Margaret Charlotte Carpenter, who bore him three sons and two daughters. Scott received his title and baronetcy from King George IV in the spring of 1820. He died, Sir Walter Scott, in 1832.
