Tour Scotland Videos Ewen Sutherland St Andrews Day Celebrations Blairgowrie Perthshire December 3rd

Tour Scotland video shot today of Ewen Sutherland singing Will ye go lassie go at the St Andrews Day Celebrations in the Wellmeadow, a park in Blairgowrie, Perthshire, Scotland.

Oh the Summer time is coming
And the trees are sweetly blooming
And the wild mountain thyme
All around the blooming heather

Will ye go lassie go
And we'll all go together
To pull wild mountain thyme
From around the blooming heather
Will ye go lassie go
.
I will build my love a bower
Near yon pure crystal fountain
And on it I will pile
All the flowers of the mountain

Will ye go lassie go
And we'll all go together
To pull wild mountain thyme
From around the blooming heather
Will ye go lassie go
.
If my true love she were gone
I will surely find no other
Where wild mountain thyme
All around the blooming heather

Will ye go lassie go
And we'll all go together
To pull wild mountain thyme
From around the blooming heather
Will ye go lassie go

Tour Scotland video shot today of Ewen Sutherland singing Bonnie Dundee at the St Andrews Day Celebrations in the Wellmeadow, a park in Blairgowrie, Perthshire, Scotland.

Tae the lairds i' convention t'was Claverhouse spoke
E'er the Kings crown go down, there are crowns to be broke
Then each cavalier who loves honour and me
Let him follow the bonnet o' bonnie Dundee.
Chorus
Come fill up my cup, come fill up my can
Come saddle my horses and call out my men
Unhook the west port and let us gae free,
For it's up wi' the bonnets o' bonnie Dundee!

Dundee he is mounted, he rides doon the street,
The bells they ring backwards, the drums they are beat,
But the Provost, douce man, says "Just e'en let it be
For the toun is well rid of that de'il o' Dundee."

Chorus

There are hills beyond Pentland and lands beyond Forth,
Be there lords i' the south, there are chiefs i' the north!
There are brave Duinnewassels, three thousand times three
Will cry "Hey!" for the bonnets o' bonnie Dundee.

Chorus

Then awa' to the hills, to the lea, to the rocks
Ere I own a usurper, I'll crouch with the fox
And tremble, false whigs, in the midst of your glee
Ye hae no seen the last o' my bonnets and me!

Old Photograph Cottages Isle Of Jura Scotland

Old photograph of thatched cottages on the Isle of Jura, Scotland. The demise of the Lords of the Isles at the end of the fifteenth century was shortly followed in 1506 by the Treaty of Camas an Staca, which removed MacDonald rights on Jura and gave them to the Campbells. Despite this, the sixteenth century was a period of skirmishing between the warring clans: McDonald, Campbell, MacLean and others. Then in 1607 the Campbells finally bought the island from the MacDonalds. This was the beginning of some three hundred years during which the island was ruled and largely owned by eleven successive Campbell lairds. The north of the island, however, remained in MacLean hands until 1737, when it was sold to Donald MacNeil of Colonsay.

For years the haunt of holidaying Glaswegians, this book captures Dunoon and the Cowal peninsula in the days when tourists were delivered by steamers rather than car ferries, and when a paddle in the sea and a promenade along the pier were all the ingredients needed for a great Fair holiday. Apart from Dunoon itself, many of the Cowal villages are included among the sixty photographs: Kirn, Hunter's Quay, Ardnadam, Sandbank, St Catherine's Well, Strachur, Millhouse, Kames, Tighnabruaich, Glendaruel, Colintraive, Innellan and Bullwood. Most of these communities had their own piers, many of which are pictured here, and a number of the photographs feature the notorious gunpowder mill at Millhouse, explosions at which could be heard as far away as Dunoon itself. Highland Mary's birthplace is also featured, as well as the pub run by Fitroy MacLean, the original James Bond. Old Dunoon and Cowal.

Old Photographs Wigtown Scotland

Old photograph of Wigtown, Scotland. Wigtown gives its name to the county of Wigtownshire. Wigtown was made a royal burgh in 1469 although a settlement here existed long before this. The burgh is mentioned in an indenture of 1292, and the fact that the sheriffdom was in existence at the time of the Largs campaign of 1263 suggests that the burgh may also have been recognised as such during the reign of Alexander III.

Old Photographs of Loch Lomond. Most of the photographs in this book date from the 1890s to the 1930s and with a few exceptions are bereft of the motor traffic which clutters the roads around Loch Lomond today. The photographs show forgotten, but once common, sights: skaters on the frozen loch, farming on the banks with a horse drawn plough, the British Silk Dyeing factory at Balloch, the grandeur of Tullichewan Castle, steamers on the loch and four-in-hand coaches and much more, an insight into a time when tourism was more exclusive and moved at a slower pace. Tour Scotland Photographs Methven Castle Perthshire December 1st

Tour Scotland photograph shot this morning of Methven Castle, West of Perth, Scotland. The lands of Methven were owned by the Mowbray family from the 12th century. The Mowbrays supported the claim of John Balliol against Robert the Bruce, and on the latter's victory, Methven was confiscated by the crown, and given to Walter Stewart, the Bruce's son-in-law. His descendant, Walter Stewart, Earl of Atholl, was deprived of the lands following his involvement in a plot to kill King James I. The castle sustained a siege in 1444, and was visited by King James II in 1450. King James IV visited several times in the 1490s.
