Tour Scotland Video Of Scottish Rainbows

Tour Scotland video of rainbows in Scotland. A rainbow is a meteorological phenomenon that is caused by reflection, refraction and dispersion of light in water droplets resulting in a spectrum of light appearing in the sky. It takes the form of a multicoloured circular arc. Rainbows caused by sunlight always appear in the section of sky directly opposite the sun. Rainbows can be full circles. However, the observer normally sees only an arc formed by illuminated droplets above the ground, and centered on a line from the sun to the observer's eye. In a primary rainbow, the arc shows red on the outer part and violet on the inner side. This rainbow is caused by light being refracted when entering a droplet of water, then reflected inside on the back of the droplet and refracted again when leaving it. In a double rainbow, a second arc is seen outside the primary arc, and has the order of its colors reversed, with red on the inner side of the arc. This is caused by the light being reflected twice on the inside of the droplet before exiting it. Rainbows can be caused by many forms of airborne water. These include not only rain, but also mist, spray, and airborne dew. In Scotland after the rain, we often have rainbows.

Tour Scotland Video Samuel George Kennedy Gravestone Perth Perthshire

Tour Scotland video of the Samuel George Kennedy Gravestone in Greyfriars Graveyard in Perth, Perthshire, Scotland. Gravestone of Reverend Samuel George Kennedy, Minister of the West Church, Parish of Perth, who died on 30th December 1835.

There are two origins of the Kennedy surname: one Scottish and the other Irish. The most commonly known Kennedy family is the Irish one made famous by the late U.S. President John F. Kennedy, whose ancestors came from County Wexford. The Kennedy clan surname in Scotland originated in Ayrshire, where they were a power house. Originally they came from the western isles and are of Celtic Norse stock. In the fifteenth century, one Ulric Kennedy fled Ayrshire to the highlands for refuge where he was granted protection under the Chief of Clan Cameron. From this Highland branch, Kennedys settled on the Isle of Skye. A branch also was established in northeast Scotland, at Aberdeen.

In A Scottish Graveyard Miscellany, Hamish Brown explores in words and extraordinary pictures the folk art of Scottish graveyards from the eighteenth century (when gravestones began to be widely used) to the present day. Each old kirkyard is a riotous celebration of folk art: there are skulls and skeletons, ships and lighthouses, angels galore, carved portraits of our forebears and even a gravestone decorated with a picture of Bart Simpson and his skateboard! More than mere memorials, the graves are a collection of pages in stone taken from the history of Scottish everyday life. Scotland's kirkyards are not gloomy places to be shunned, but places to find vivid stories from the lives of people, without distinction of class or creed. There is much humour in this book, and the photographs throughout taken by the author illustrate better than words why we should look after the unique treasuries in our midst. The Scottish Graveyard Miscellany: The Folk Art of Scotland's Graves.

Standing with Stones: A Photographic Journey Through Megalithic Britain and Ireland. Across the length and breadth of Britain and Ireland lies an unsurpassed richness of prehistoric heritage. Standing with Stones is a personal voyage of discovery, taking the reader to over a hundred megalithic sites in a photographic journey through the British Isles. The book is divided into regions, and each site featured is given its Ordnance Survey grid reference. Some, like Stonehenge and Newgrange, are well known and often visited, but many, such as Fernworthy and Bleasdale, are remote and barely known. Rupert Soskins stunning and original photographs act as windows into the past, which, together with his engaging and accessible text, encourage the reader to think afresh about the meaning and purpose of these monuments and at the same time open the eyes of travellers and enthusiasts to the great wealth and variety of henges, circles, dolmens, barrows and standing stones across the British Isles. Tour Scotland Video Smallpipes St Ninian's Cathedral Perth Perthshire

Tour Scotland video of a lament played on the smallpipes in St Ninian's Cathedral in Perth, Perthshire, Scotland. The group the Odd Alliance playing in St Ninian's Cathedral in Perth. Scottish Smallpipes are distinguished from the Northumbrian smallpipes by having an open end to the chanter, and usually by the lack of keys. This means that the sound of the chanter is continuous, rather than staccato, and that its range is only nine notes, rather than the nearly two octaves of the later 18th/19th century style Northumbrian pipes. A further distinction from the Northumbrian smallpipes is that the Scottish Smallpipes lack an unbroken line of traditional playing.

Built on the site of the medieval seat of power in the area, the castle which formerly stood on the site had been besieged by the armies of William Wallace, Andrew de Moray and later by Robert the Bruce during the Wars of Scottish Independence. The stronghold was destroyed during the Wars of the Three Kingdoms. A tiny portion of the castle still remains within the Cathedral grounds.
