Till the day ye dee, lassie, ye will ne'er repent it
Ye will wear when ye are wed a kirtle and a Hieland plaid
And sleep upon a heather bed sae couthy and sae canty

Ye will gang sae braw, lassie, tae the kirk o' Birnie Bouzle
Little brogues an' a', lassie, vow, but ye'll be canty
Your wee bit tocher is but sma', but hodden grey will wear for a'
And I'll save my siller tae mak ye braw an' ye will ne'er repent it

Gin ye'll mairry me, lassie, at the kirk o' Birnie Bouzle
Till the day ye dee, lassie, ye will ne'er repent it

By yon castle wa' at the close of the day,
I heard a man sing, tho his head it was grey,
And as he was singing, the tears doon came,
There'll never be peace till Jamie comes hame !

The Church is in ruins, the State is in jars,
Delusion, oppressions, and murderous wars,
We dare na weel sayl but we ken wha's to blame
There'll never be peace till Jamie comes hame !

My seven braw sons for Jamie drew sword,
But now I greet round their green beds in the yerd;
It brak the sweet heart o my faithfu auld dame.
There'll never be peace till Jamie comes hame !

Now life is a burden that bows me down,
Sin I tint my bairns, and he tint his crown;
But till my last moments my words are the same.
There'll never be peace till Jamie comes hame !

Meaning of Scots words:
wa' means wall
greet means weep
yerd means kirkyard
sin I tint means as I lost
bairns means children

Robert Burns was born in 1757 so the passions of the Jacobite Uprising of 1745 and the wish by some to see the return of King James VIII were still very much in evidence during his lifetime. During his work collecting old Scottish songs, Burns came across the title of this song and created the words to go with it. "Jamie" is of course James VIII.

Tour Scotland photograph of a red haired lass under a brolly on the Royal Mile at the Festival Fringe in Edinburgh, Scotland. Scotland also has a very high percentage with around 6% of the population having red hair. Previously it was estimated that red hair occurrence in Scotland was around 13%, which had been widely reported in reliable media sources. However, Dr. Jim Wilson of Britain's DNA study used a sample of 2,343 people, and found red hair occurrence of 6% in Scotland, with 35% overall carrying the gene and Edinburgh having the highest proportion of gene carriers at 40%. The largest ever study of hair colour in Scotland, which analysed over 500,000 people in 1907, found the percentage of Scots with red hair to be 5.3%. 38% of Welsh people carry the red haired gene. A 1956 study of hair colour among British army recruits found higher levels of red hair in Wales and the English Border counties.

Tour Scotland Photograph David Hume Statue Royal Mile Edinburgh

Tour Scotland photograph of the statue of David Hume on the Royal Mile in Edinburgh, Scotland. On a grey, rainy afternoon someone had added some colour to the bronze atatue of David Hume. David Home was the second of two sons born to Joseph Home of Ninewells, an advocate, and his wife Katherine, née Falconer. He was born on 26 April 1711 in a tenement on the north side of the Lawnmarket in Edinburgh. Hume's father died when he was a child, just after the author's second birthday, and he was raised by his mother, who never re-married. He changed the spelling of his name in 1734, because of the fact that his surname Home, pronounced Hume, was not known in England. Throughout his life Hume, who never married, spent time occasionally at his family home at Ninewells in Berwickshire, which had belonged to his family since the sixteenth century. He became a famous Scottish philosopher, historian, economist, and essayist, who is best known today for his highly influential system of radical philosophical empiricism, skepticism, and naturalism.

Oxford's all male vocal sensation in Edinburgh. These fifteen undergraduates provide a musical experience like no other. You can follow them on Twitter @ootboxford

You were working as a waitress in a cocktail bar
When I met you
I picked you out, I shook you up, and turned you around
Turned you into someone new
Now five years later on you've got the world at your feet
Success has been so easy for you
But don't forget it's me who put you where you are now
And I can put you back down too
Chorus :
Don't, don't you want me?
You know I can't believe it when I hear that you won't see me
Don't, don't you want me?
You know I don't believe you when you say that you don't need me
It's much too late to find
You think you've changed your mind

You'd better change it back or we will both be sorry
Don't you want me baby? Don't you want me oh
Don't you want me baby? Don't you want me oh
I was working as a waitress in a cocktail bar
That much is true
But even then I knew I'd find a much better place
Either with or without you
The five years we have had have been such good times
I still love you
But now I think it's time I lived my life on my own
I guess it's just what I must do
(Chorus)
Don't you want me baby? Don't you want me oh
Don't you want me baby? Don't you want me oh

Tour Scotland Video Murdo Mitchell Royal Mile Festival Fringe Edinburgh

Tour Scotland video of Murdo Mitchell singing Mr Rock and Roll on the Royal Mile at the Festival Fringe in Edinburgh, Scotland. Murdo singing an Amy MacDonald song in the rain. He is a very talented young Scot, a really nice lad as well, and nothing bothers him, certainly not a wee bit of rain.

So called Mr Rock And Roll
Is dancing on his own again
Talking on his phone again
To someone who tells him that his balance is low
He's got no where to go
He's on his own again

Rock chick of the century
Is acting like she used to be
Dancing like there's no one there
Before she never seemed to care
Now she wouldn't dare
It's so rock and roll to be alone

And they'll meet one day
Far away
And say "I wish I was something more"
And they'll meet one day
Far away
And say " I wish I knew you, I wish I knew you before"

Mrs Black and White
She's never seen a shade of grey
Always something on her mind
Every single day
But now she's lost her way
And where does she go from here

Mr Multicultural
Sees all that one can see
He's living proof of someone
Very different to me
But now he wants to be free
Free so he can see

And they'll meet one day
Far away
And say "I wish I was something more"
And they'll meet one day
Far away
And say "I wish I knew you, I wish I knew you before"

He says "I wish I knew you, I wish I met you
When time was still on my side"
She'll say " I wish I knew you, I wish I loved you
Before I was his bride"

And so they must depart
Too many more are broken hearts
But I've seen that all before
In TV, books and film and more
And there's a happy ending
Every single day

And they'll meet one day
Far away
And say "I wish I was something more"
And they'll meet one day
Far away
And say "I wish I knew you, I wish I knew you before"
